Valencia Soil and Water Conservation District’s Board Chair, Teresa Smith de Cherif, is a guest speaker this week at the 15th Annual New Mexico Wildland Urban Fire Summit at the University of New Mexico—Valencia Campus in Tomé, from September 30–October 2, 2025.
Today, September 30, at 3:00 p.m., Chair Smith de Cherif will present “Restoration of the Bosque after the Big Hole Fire of April 11, 2022.”
Tomorrow, Chair Smith de Cherif’s presentation will be “Post-disaster funding: a case study in adaptive framing.” Her presentation tomorrow will focus on how Valencia Soil and Water Conservation District secured $2.11 million after the Big Hole Fire for major infrastructure at the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area in Belen.
